As an A-Team Leader of highly trained Air Commandos, I learned to go anywhere in the world with a small team, limited funds, and an important mission...and get them done by a deadline.  As a Commando I learned  business.  Some days the economy gives a favorable wind, other days it's blowing in your face.  You still have a mission to accomplish or a business product or service to provide.  You still navigate around political and regulatory pitfalls.  You still avoid legal entanglements and disadvantage.  And through it all you still have to be the leader others look to when things aren't what they should be.  That leadership experience directly transfers from military leadership to business management.
